ABDONIMAL AORTIC ANEURYSM SCREENING (AAA)
The aorta is our largest blood vessel and its purpose is to carry oxygen-rich blood from our heart to the rest of our body. High blood pressure, atherosclerosis, genetic conditions, and normal wear and tear from aging can result in a weakened aortic wall. In up to 90% of cases, this serious medical emergency causes death within minutes or shortly after arrival to the hospital. You’ll lay face-up on an exam table. We apply acoustic gel to an ultrasound transducer. We move the transducer across your bare abdomen, taking measurements and pictures. |
