Frances Elaine Barrett A friend to many, mother and champion of many Arizona causes, joins her husband J. Wilson Barrett in death at age 86. Frances passed peacefully the morning of August 13, 2008 at the Terraces after a brief illness. As a child Frances Perry moved to Tucson with her family from Carthage, Illinois where the family opened and engaged in a successful dairy and poultry operation. We remember many stories of her numerous and extended family members as well as spirited exploits in Tucson and summers at the family mine and camp on Mt. Lemmon. Upon graduating from Tucson High School, her success with computation led her to become an auditor for Sears. However her most inspiring life role was that of wife and friend to her husband J. Wilson Barrett, long time Arizona banker (Valley National Bank, subsequently JP Morgan Chase) and civic leader. She is associated in the minds of many as the co-spark to a long-time partnership that graced many philanthropic organizations and fund-raising events in Arizona. Some of these included the American Cancer Society; Phoenix Symphony Guild; First United Methodist Church & Foundation; John C. Lincoln Hospital Foundation; as well as several civic organizations which over the years contributed to the communitys vitality, purpose and well-being; The Phoenix 40; The Phoenix 100 Rotary Club; United Way of Phoenix - Scottsdale; NCCJ and Goodwill, where she was also its volunteer event Treasurer. In recent years she has enjoyed her many friends while living at The Terraces in Phoenix, where she also served on its Residency Board. An avid and devoted bridge player, she folds her hand on one four-some that has been together for 40 plus years. She is lovingly remembered by her immediate and extended family, whom she is survived by; son James Wilson Barrett, Jr. of Flagstaff; daughter Lynda Lee Germond (Daniel) of Phoenix; son Thomas Perry Barrett of Bainbridge Island/Seattle; her sister Ardith Mendenall, and her children of Santa Barbara; and younger sister Caralee and spouse John Cubbage of Mammoth, with children in Arizona, Ohio and New Mexico. Memorial services are Monday, August 18 at 10:00 a.m. at The Terraces, The Gathering Place, 7550 N. 16th Street (left at light on Morton St. and second entrance on the left side of the road; enter at covered central portico; #602/944-0937). The family suggests donations to the First United Methodist Church Foundation (5510 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85023); American Cancer Society - Arizona Chapter (4550 E. Bell Rd. #126, Phoenix, AZ 85032); Hospice of the Valley (2122 E. Highland Ave. #100, Phoenix, AZ 85016) or the arts charity of your choice. Arrangements by Hansen Mortuary, 602-944-1561. |
