SENG -Irene Shanklin Seng, passed away August 12, 2008 in Pasadena, California surrounded by her family. Irene was born October 31, 1921 in Lompoc, California to Albert and Vivian Shanklin. She attended UCLA and met her future husband, Stan, at Camp Cook, now Vandenbuerg Air Force Base. While her husband was serving our country overseas, she volunteered for the Red Cross. When he returned from the war, they settled in Altadena to raise their two daughters. Irene volunteered for the Girl Scouts for over 20 years serving as troop leader and chairing the Program Development Committee at the local council. She was presented with the highest level award for her volunteer service. She was a mentor for many young girls, many of whom thought of her as a second mom. She also volunteered with Head Start and Friends in Deed. She and her husband were members of Westminster Church for 50 years. Most important to Irene was her family. She was a loving mother an d grandmother who always gave unconditional love and support to all her family. Preceding her in death was her husband of 64 years, Stanley Britt Seng. She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Chris) Wood, Judy Phillips, granddaughters Emily (Scott) Mencken and Melinda (Charles) Phillips, and great-grandchildren, Katherine, Joshua and Nathaniel Mencken and Rosemary Phillips. Graveside services will be August 21, 2008 in Ballard, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Huntington H ospital of Pasadena, California or by giving blood to the Huntington Hospital Blood Bank. Goodbye, Bema. We love you. |
