Anchorage resident Edith Marion Jones, 83, died Aug. 11, 2008, at home.
A memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Marys Episcopal Church, 2222 E. Tudor Road.
Marion was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Canada. She graduated from high school in 1942 and served in the Canadian Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
Marion arrived in Alaska in 1955 with her family when her husband, Lon, was stationed at Fort Richardson.
Marion was a warm and friendly person who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends regardless of whether they lived close by or required international travel, her family said. During her frequent travels, whomever sat next to Marion on the journey often became a new friend.
Marion used her outgoing personality to help tourists as a volunteer at the log cabin visitor center in Anchorage. She was also a volunteer for the Food Bank and the suicide hot line.
Marion was a surrogate mother to many, and she will be deeply missed.
Marion is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Leslie Jones of Anchorage and Jeffrey and Janis Jones of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Eleodia of Jacksonville, Fla., David Coburn of Anchorage, David Leslie of Anchorage, Stacy Dumlao of Anchorage and Josh Utela of Oregon; great-grandchildren, including Evan Utela of Oregon, Evan Smith of Anchorage, Taylor and Jayden Dumlao of Anchorage, and Owen Flanagan of Jacksonville; and brother, Norman Ford of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. |
