posted 08/19/2008 at 11:36 am in colorado springs, co
July 4, 1947 - August 11, 2008 Beloved son, brother and friend, Donald Craig Jackson, passed on to the next life on Monday, August 11, 2008 after a long brave fight with cancer. He was 61 years old. Donald was born on the Fourth of July in 1947, the first child of Donald C. Jackson, Jr. and Charlotte (Gates) Jackson in Norfolk, VA. In Virginia, he lived in Norfolk, Falls Church, and McLean until 1963 when the family moved to Aiea, Hawaii on the shores of Pearl Harbor. In Hawaii, Scooter Jackson loved to surf and took every opportunity to ride the big waves on the North Shore of Oahu, even if it meant playing hookey from school. He was also a graceful, talented baseball player. He graduated from Punahou High School, Honolulu, Hawaii in 1965. Donald attended Montana State University until transferring to Colorado State University. He left college after 3 years for a long and successful career in the construction industry, most of it in Colorado Springs where he moved to be near his family. He loved many things. Driving in the mountains. The colors of the aspen in the fall. The ocean. Baseball. Flowers, gardening and working in his yard. Fireworks on his birthday. Sunrises and sunsets. Laughing and enjoying life. He loved his friends and had many, all of whom loved him, too. Most of all he loved his family, and there was never a better son or big brother. Donald is survived by his parents, Donald and Charlotte, his sisters, Carole Jackson Mason and Mary Jackson, his brother, Steven Jackson, brother-in-law, Robert Mason, nephews Robin and Michael Mason, sister-in-law, Carla Torrisi Jackson, nieces, Mackenzie, Hannah and Lillia Jackson, his aunts, Peg and Joan, and their families, and his friends. There will be a private family celebration of his life. Donations in memoriam can be made to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care, 825 E. Pikes Peak Ave., Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
