IDELLE BATES FORMERLY OF WHITING, IN Idelle Bates, age 90, formerly of Whiting, IN, left to be with her husband, Harold on August 9, 2008. Idelle was an active member at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Whiting and a volunteer at Community Hospital in Munster in the gift shop until she moved to Merrillville in 1998 and to Hobart in 2006. She was also proud to have been a member of the P.E.O. Idelle was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bates; sisters: Mildred (Carl) Scott of Washington and Helen Staples; great-grandson, Cory Bates; as well as mother, Irene; and father, Eugene. She is survived by her son, Donald Bates of Gary; grandchildren: Christina (John) Holland, Michele Bates and Michael Bates, all of Hobart. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Jacob, Joshua, Marissa, Devin and Cody Bates; Kyle Kitchens; Robert and Justin Furry; and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Plymouth Congregational Church with Rev. James Facklam officiating. Cremation at the Burns Funeral Home Crematory will precede the memorial service. Burns Funeral Home (Hobart) in charge of arrangements.
